Welding Schools in Texas

This post was last updated on April 11th, 2017 at 08:19 am

Everything’s bigger in Texas, they say, and there are great opportunities both to learn welding, and to make a living as a welder. If you’re looking to study or work in the Lone Star State, we hope you’ll find the information you need here if becoming a welder is of interest to you.

Most programs will teach you the how to weld safely and efficiently and the types of welding methods that you will probably use. They will also prepare you to take the required certification exams.

Salary

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the annual pay scale for welders nationwide ranges from $24,490 for the lowest 10 percent to $55,240 for the highest 10 percent, with the median 50th percentile earning $35,920 a year. Certified welders are more likely to earn the better salaries, as they have demonstrated a certain level of competency by earning their certification.

In Texas, the annual pay scale ranges from $12.45 per hour or $25,900 per year for a welder with little experience to $32.90 per hour or $68,400 per year for a senior welder. The average is $18.84 per hour or $39,200 per year.

Welders earn less than 57% of all trades careers in Texas. Compared with the rest of the states, Texas ranks number 17th in terms of average salary paid.

Welding Job Market in Texas

Welders who keep up to date with the latest technology are in high demand with employers. Additionally, welding skills are very transferrable among employers and states. Nationwide most employers are in the construction and manufacturing sectors; however, another large employer of welders is electric and gas utilities.

Currently in Texas, there are 56,270 jobs available for welders. The projected number of jobs that will be available is expected to increase 13% by 2024.

Texas is a huge state, and that’s reflected in a large number of welding jobs available. The need for skilled welders is expected to continue to grow. Wages for beginning welders are just about at the national average, but with more seniority, welders own substantially more than the average, which means there are great opportunities in the Lone Star State.
